Maria Pulsone, 95, emigrated to the USA in 1955 at 27. She worked as a seamstress four years in Rochester and 45 in Manhattan. Her boss chose her to pose for a statue. It sat at 897 Broadway until 2018. Pulsone’s granddaughter tracked it to an antique warehouse in Scranton. It will soon be a part of the Italian American Museum. The category should be Cosi Belli. Will it ever matter? Excerpt from an NYP editorial: “The U.S. federal debt passed $35,000,000,000,000.” It seems insanity, but the warnings about fiscal Armageddon have yet to materialize. In the same vein, headline from newsmax.com: “Senators Seek $32B for AI, Safeguards.” Why not let the private sector do the planning, and law enforcement work security from their budgets? Politicians will only botch things.

Headline from NM: “Report: Soros Pumps $81M to Censor Americans’ Election Speech Online.” And this: “Foreign Attempts to Sway US Elections High, Rising.” According to the unattributed article: “…declassified intelligence assessments identified not just Russia, China, and Iran but also Cuba, Venezuela, Islamic militants ‘and a range of foreign hacktivists and profit-motivated cybercriminals’.”

Last night Movies!, channel 5–2 on OTA in NYC, ran an adaptation of Eugene Ionesco’s Rhinoceros (1974), starring Gene Wilder, Zero Mostel and Karen Black. It was first produced for the French stage in 1959. I was at a loss as to what it was about other than conformity, so I googled it and found this: “… an absurdist play meant to function as an allegory for the Nazi party’s spread of fascism during World War II.” Makes sense, but it seems dated, although I’m sure it can be likened to factions today. In the movie, the rhinos were heard, not seen. If anyone were to remake it today, he/she would have the option of CGI. Photo from GI:

Does she have juice or what? Headline from foxnews.com: “NFL confirms Taylor Swift played role in determining next season’s football schedule.” Photo from GI:

Another gem from the Staten Island goombah:

I was so happy when I heard the forecast had changed, no rain expected. I didn’t hear the part about the wind. It was fierce at the Anti-Inflation book nook. Sneezing was prevalent, including from yours truly. The most surprising aspect was coughing from whatever made its way to the throat. When I got home I had as brutal a hack as I’ve ever had. My thanks to the woman who bought The Rainmaker by John Grisham. Yesterday I scanned an article about the best-selling book in each of the last 100 years. Grisham was cited in seven straight years and at least one other. Amazing.
