Tidbits
I find this nypost.com headline surprising but am happy to hear it: “Sales at Trump properties skyrocket post-presidency.”
Here’s the first sentence from an NYP article by Theo Wayt: “Facebook may be held accountable for knowingly benefitting from sex traffickers who have used the social network to ensnare victims, a Texas court has ruled.” I’ll believe it when I see it.
Here’s a snippet from an NYP article by Gary Taustine: “Only about 2 percent of the nation identifies as vegetarian, and only 1 in 4 of those Americans is vegan. Yet somehow meat consumption is becoming another bitter political wedge threatening to further widen our impassable divide.” Although it’s seems impossible that this movement will ever gain any significant traction, remember that vocal, self-righteous, bullying minorities have changed and continue to change the country’s cultural landscape. Many, even among the powerful, cave to them.
This newsmax.com headline is at once hilarious and sad: “California Asks Residents to Avoid Charging Electric Cars Amid Power Grid Strain.” Gas up, brothers and sisters.
Despite the toil in the heat, the floating book shop was worth the effort today. It was brutal setting up, as shade had yet to cover the area. I forced myself to step aside a few times for a breather. Not putting out the two largest boxes helped a bit. My thanks to the woman who bought Faith of My Fathers: A Family Memoir by John McCain and Mark Salter. I thought that would be it. Soon a young woman who had donated a bunch of textbooks that have all sold showed. I hadn’t seen her in a while, as she’s working part time in an insurance office while waiting to hear if she’s been accepted to med school. “Raise your prices,” she said, not the first time. In order not to seem like a complete idiot, I explained why I charge so little, pointing to my own books. “That’s why I’m here,” I said. “Everything else’s is gravy.” She purchased Rising Star. My thanks, and also to the woman who took home a Mother Goose pictorial and The Whole30: The 30-Day Guide to Total Health and Food Freedom by Melissa Hartwig Urban and Dallas Hartwig.
