To Knit or Not to Knit?

From an op-ed piece by Bob McManus on nypost.com, edited by yours truly: The art of knitting is no longer benign. It has been dragged into the political arena. Ravelry, an organization devoted to the pastime, has eight million members. Its hierarchy recently released this edict: “We are banning support of Donald Trump and his administration. We cannot provide a space that is inclusive of all and also allow support for open white supremacy.” This will not surprise students of literature, given history’s most famous knitter, Madame DeFarge of Charles Dickens’ A Tale of Two Cities. “Then tell Wind and Fire where to stop,” returned madame; “but don’t tell me.” Perhaps Ravelry’s officials favor a return to the use of the guillotine. Here’s Blanche Yurka in the role in the 1935 adaptation of Dickens’ classic:

From foxnews.com, edited by yt: A nearby asteroid contains enough gold to make everyone on Earth a billionaire. Psyche 16 is nestled between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter and is made of solid metal. As well as the yellow metal, it is loaded with platinum, iron and nickel, estimated worth $10,000 quadrillion. Dubbed the Discovery Mission, a probe will arrive around 2026.
If Psyche 16 were carried back to Earth, it would destroy commodity prices and cause the world’s economy to collapse. Expect novels and screenplays to be written about this. Here’s a pic:

Project Veritas is an organization that does what serious journalists used to do — expose injustice, usually of the liberal variety. It recently managed to infiltrate Google and secretly tape officials, who admitted the political bias of its search algorithms. That video has been taken down from youtube, and there hasn’t been a peep from the mainstream media. Imagine the uproar if the bias were conservative. I wasn’t even able to find the vid on its own website or conservative ones.

Good fortune continues to shine on the floating book shop. My thanks to the Quiet Man, who bought six of the DVDs my constant benefactress donated yesterday; and to the gentleman who purchased two, as well as The 6th Target by James Patterson and Maxine Paetro, and a bio of JFK and a paperback of president profiles up to LBJ; and to Ira, who selected an instructional on building shelves and book cases; and to Nell, who chose R.E.M’s Up CD, although neither of us recognized a single track listed on it, despite the fact that it achieved platinum status. Thanks also to the brainy brothers who dispatched their home attendant with a donation of four works of non-fiction.
