Down Under oddity, Melbourne, photo by Mike Reed, posted at theguardian.com:

Headline from nypost.com: “I slept with 600 men in 2024 — now I’m looking to settle down and find love.” Does that mean she didn’t necessarily have sex with all of them? Clarity, please.

I’m lovin’ what DT is doing, but this idea is dumb. Headline from newsmax.com: “Rep. Tenney Moves to Make Trump’s Birthday a Federal Holiday.” Let history settle that way down the line.

I hope this isn’t just politics as usual. Headline from foxnews.com: “Hochul reverses course on green energy after utility company signals rate hike.”

This doesn’t sound good. From FN: “Americans’ credit card and household debt reach all-time high.”

From FN: “German prosecutors tell ’60 Minutes’ it’s a crime to insult people online as government raids offenders’ homes.” Granted, it’s crass and unnecessary, but a crime?

People march on behalf of government waste and inefficiency, and a halt to transparency. National Day of Protest on Presidents’ Day in NYC, Reuters photo by Eduardo Munoz:

From FN: “Lung cancer rising among non-smokers — here’s why.” I bet most folks would guess the main reason — air pollution. According to the article by Melissa Rudy, the highest levels are in East Asia, particularly China, no surprise given the air quality. Other factors cited: vaping, secondhand smoke and genetic risk factors. I’ve come to believe the latter is the most important. It would explain why many non-bar or nightclub staff succumb quite young. It seems some unfortunate folks simply do not have cancer-fighting genes or lose them to wear along the way.

I bailed a little more than an hour into today’s session of the Anti-Inflation Book Shop, as intermittent cloud cover negated the warmth of the sunshine. My thanks to the woman who bought three pieces of costume jewelry. If the weather chart is right, relief should begin on Saturday. May it be so. And it looks like NYC is going to dodge the storm that was predicted early in the week. Yay! I hope I haven’t jinxed us.
