RIP singer/songwriter Eric Carmen, 74, who died in his sleep. Born in Cleveland, the child of Russian Jewish immigrants, he began violin lessons at six. At eleven it was piano, at 15 guitar. He became the front man for the Raspberries, having a hand in the songwriting. Its single, Go All the Way, hit #5 in 1972. Two other tracks cracked the top 20. He went solo in ’75. All by Myself, based on Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto №2, hit #2, selling more than a million copies. In ’76 Never Gonna Fall in Love Again, also based on Rachmaninoff, reached #11. In ’77 She Did It hit #23. In ’78 Change of Heart rose to #19. In ’87 Hungry Eyes went to #4 and in ’88 Make Me Lose Control climbed to #3. In all he released nine albums with the Raspberries, which includes three compilations and two live discs, and ten as a solo artist, including four compilations. His songs were covered by Samantha Sang, Shaun Cassidy, Louise Mandrell, Ann Wilson and Mike Reno. Married three times, he was a father of two. Well done, Sir. Photo from Google Images:

I haven’t commented on the unintended consequences of lax marijuana laws in a while. Headline from NYP: “New Yorkers can barely live in their apartments because the weed smell is so bad — ‘It wakes me up’.” It seems benign, although I’m glad I don’t have that problem.

Not much action at the Anti-Inflation Book Shop on this gorgeous day. My thanks to the woman who bought a hardcover in Russian, and to the folks who dropped off books, a total of four.
