Congratulations to the Biden administration for finally getting something right in the killing of the leader of Al Qaeda. One question: why is this celebrated when the killing of the previous terrorist bigwig was condemned? Two guesses… And kudos also to the Wicked Witch of the West for visiting Taiwan despite China’s threats.

Score one for the good guys/girls, headline from nypost.com: “Bungled break-in: 80-year-old liquor store owner shoots would-be robber.” The creep was carrying an AR-15 style rifle. Kudos, madam.

From NYP: “Street party chaos: NYPD officers pelted with bottles in wild scene after Bronx Dominican Day parade.” SMH… And in a related story, headline from foxnews.com: “210 police, law enforcement officers shot in line of duty so far this year — up 14% from prior year.” 39 dead.

Okay, top this NYP headline: “I’m a millionaire at 28 — from selling my toenails, foot skin, used panties, more.” I love entrepreneurs.

Attention sci-fi writers, fodder in this NYP headline: “Scientists baffled as Earth spins faster than usual.” And in the same vein, a snippet from a Reuters article posted at FN about a health tracking device developed by South Korean researchers: “…an electronic tattoo ink made of liquid metal and carbon nanotubes that functions as a bioelectrode.”

Government in a nutshell, snippet from an NYP editorial: “When the Federal Direct Student Loan Program began in 1994, the government figured it would generate $114 billion in revenue, yet it’s now projected to cost $197 billion, a difference of more than $300 billion — with the public footing the bill.” Meanwhile, tuition costs have continued to rise.

My thanks to the kind folks who bought books on this splendid summer day. Fortunately, there was no incoming. Here’s what sold: four titles in Russian, Split Second and No Escape by David Baldacci; Death Comes to Pemberley by P.D. James; The Hope by Herman Wouk; Blue Moon by Lee Child; Einstein and the Rabbi: Searching for the Soul by Naomi Levy; Bargaining for Advantage: Negotiation Strategies for Reasonable People by G. Richard Shell; The World of Science pictorial; and these three gems:
