RIP Treat Williams, 71, killed while riding his motorcycle. Born in suburban Connecticut, he studied acting in college and honed his craft working summers with a reparatory company, doing classics, contemporary drama and musicals. He began his professional career on Broadway, understudying as Danny Zuko in Grease, before taking over the role. Milos Foreman noticed and cast him as Berger in Hair (1979), which vaulted Williams to stardom. There are 131 titles under his name at IMDb, career spanning 1975 to the present. Other notable works in which he appeared: The Eagle Has Landed (1976), outstanding in Prince of the City (1981), Dempsey (1983), A Streetcar Named Desire (1984), Once Upon a Time in America (1984), J. Edgar Hoover (1987), Things to Do in Denver When You’re Dead (1995), Mulholland Falls (1996), Journey to the Center of the Earth (1999), 127 Hours (2010). He also did a lot of TV, most notably 89 episodes of Everwood and 53 of Cheasepeake Shores. He has a film and series in post-production. Married from 1988 until his passing, he was a dad of two. Gone much too soon. Thank you, Sir. Photo from Google Images:

RIP NY Jets Super Bowl hero Jim Turner, 82. Born in California, he played collegiately as a QB and kicker at Utah State. He was selected by the Redskins in the 19th round of the 1963 NFL draft. He was released and signed with the Jets. In 1968 he kicked a then record 34 field goals and had a record 145 points. He scored nine points in the AFL championship win vs the Raiders and ten in the monumental upset of the Colts in Super Bowl III. He was traded to the Broncos after the 1970 season and in 1978 had four points in the team’s loss to the Cowboys in Super Bowl XII. In 16 seasons he scored 1439 points. His 304 field goals are the third most in league history. His name is in the Denver Broncos Ring of Fame, and he is a member of his alma mater’s hall of fame. He is survived by his wife and three daughters. Well done, Sir. Photo from GI:

I find this headline from newsmax.com very amusing and wonder if it will change minds about the process: “‘Final Beatles Record’ Out This Year Aided by AI.” But it doesn’t top this one on the humor scale, from foxnews.com: “‘Where do I sign up?’ San Diego homeless woman says they’re ‘spoiled’ with free stuff, phones.”

This sounds promising, headline from NM: “Ukraine Claims 4th Village Retaken in Counteroffensive.”

And this one surprises me: “RFK Jr.: Climate Change Used to Push Totalitarianism.” I’d have thought he would be on board.

The floating book shop enjoyed another cool day along Avenue Z. My thanks to Marty, who delivered a bag of books and had nice things to say about Five Cents, the work in which I have the least confidence. Here’s what sold: a hardcover in Russian, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince by J. K. Rowling; Brighton Beach Memoirs by Neil Simon; James Taylor’s Mud Slide Slim and Boz Scagg’s Middle Man albums on vinyl; a pocket size Thomas Kinkade pictorial; and this about one of the few artists who approached Sammy Davis Jr. in overall talent:
