Upside Down
There’s a new worldwide trend in tourism — upside down houses. This one is on the Canadian side of Niagara Falls (Slowly I turned):
Scanning viewing options with the remote last night, I paused at one of the Spanish stations, Telexitos, 47–2 on ota’s in NYC. It was running a dubbed action flick, 12 Rounds 3: Lockdown (2015). It didn’t require even passable knowledge of the language, which I’ve lost, to follow the plot. A cop with evidence against dirty colleagues is pursued by the group, which institutes a lockdown that clears the building of everyone but the killers and the hero. Although highly implausible, it’s not boring, and it’s plenty violent. It stars WWE superstar Dean Ambrose, billed under his real name, Jonathan Good. A few faces in the supporting cast were vaguely familiar. I was surprised at the extensive credits of several: Lochlyn Munro 252, Kirby Morrow 198, Ty Olsson 175, Roger Cross 162, Bill Dow 125. A few appeared in at least one episode of The X-Files. The first entry in the Rounds series starred John Cena, the second Randy Orton, both pro wrestling legends. Here’s Ambrose/Good in character:
When the station went to commercial, I moved to one of the Ion channels, 31–3, which recently began airing a true crime series, The First 48, as in hours, in prime time, 8–11. In the episodes I’ve seen, just about all of the killers and victims are/were black. I’m surprised it is allowed to air, as the staggering amount of black on black violence in America is ignored by all but a few. I find the show too depressing to watch in entirety.
The minimum salary for an NFL rookie is $610,000. I guess this 24-year-old couldn’t make ends meet on that paltry sum. Headline from foxnews.com: “Ravens’ Broderick Washington arrested for allegedly breaking into cars in Virginia.” If he is released, will he resort to crime full time?
Another FN headline: “Will coronavirus face masks be the next ‘plastic problem?’ New research suggests yes.” Although it’s anathema these days, I’ll say it again — they should be burned.
Given that the Feds will not let Texas defend its southern border, maybe the great state should secede.
I waited for a rainy day to get this year’s vehicle inspection done. I got off easy, minor stuff, only $85. I’m amazed at how much the specter of it nagged me. What’s the worst that could have happened — major repair? It’s not like I hadn’t been through it before. It’s probably time for a new car, anyway, although Ralph says the old Hyundai’s in good shape. It’s a 2003 model. I rarely drive more than ten miles a day. Corona has put the kibosh on the 71 mile trips to Jersey. If I get a parking spot that accommodates the floating book shop, I don’t move until I’m forced to by the alternate side regulation.
