Among today’s many celebrations, it’s Alien Abduction Day. All together: Scully! Photo from GI:

Also, it’s National Ravioli Day. Now you’re talkin’. Photo from GI:

And it’s World Behavior Analysis Day, which at present can be summed up in one word: Oi!

And it’s World Storytelling Day. Photo from GI:

From an article by Brooke Steinberg at nypost.com: “Researchers have genetically modified a brown cow in Brazil to produce human insulin in its milk…” If it pans out it would reduce costs and scarcity… And there’s hope on another medical front. From NYP: “Genetic tool eliminates HIV from infected cells, new research shows: ‘Cure strategy’.”

Clever quote from The Wall Street Journal’s William McGurn in an NYP editorial: “The joke around Jerusalem is that while Biden once worked to help Israel after Oct. 7, he’s now working on the ‘two-state solution’: Michigan and Nevada.” Kudos.

Are things returning to normal in the USA? From an article by Theodore Bunker at newsmax.com: “… the number of murders nationwide dropped 13% in 2023, while overall violent crime fell by 6% and property crime decreased by 4%.” Are the stats from store theft included in the latter? If so, Yay! If not, WTF?

Sprinkles forced an early close to the Anti-Inflation Book Shop on this otherwise pleasant though overcast day. My thanks to those who bought. Here’s what sold: two books in Russian; Mastering the Art of French Cooking by Julia Child, Louisette Bertholle & Simone Beck; The New York Times Cook Book by Craig Claiborne; The Doomsday Conspiracy by Sidney Sheldon; The Age of Turbulence: Adventures in a New World by Alan Greenspan; The Best of Mystery: 63 Short Stories Chosen by the Master of Suspense Alfred Hitchcock.
