Visitors

A Bangkok convenience store had a visitor:

And this was lurking under a parked car in Florida:

Headline from nypost.com: “Aliens might be friendly — but don’t bet on it: expert’s dire warning.” If they are anything like humans, odds are they will look to conquer.

This NYP headline is reasonable but futile: “After Albany’s off-the-chart budget and monster tax hikes, NY needs a voter rebellion.” The majority of residents want high spending, “free” stuff, and expect a bailout from taxpayers from the rest of America when a huge hole is blown in the budget, as happened recently in the so-called Covid relief bill — and they’ll get it as long as the Dems are in control.

A few days ago a movie buff brought an interesting bit of trivia to my attention, so I did some research. Born in Missouri in 1933, a direct descendant of Kit Carson and Daniel Boone, William Smith has been a Hollywood mainstay since 1942 when he appeared in The Ghost of Frankenstein as “Village Boy in Courtroom.” There are now 275 titles under his name at IMDb, mostly tough guy roles that feature his chiseled torso. He first came to my attention as one of the stars of Laredo, which shot 56 episodes from 1965'-’67. He has made four or more appearances in at least eight other series. He has 30 credits in the category of stunts, three as producer, two as writer, one as director. His most famous role is probably as Falconetti in the two Rich Man, Poor Man incarnations. His life off the screen is what sets him apart from many of his peers. He won the 200 pound arm-wrestling championship of the world multiple times and also won the U.S. Air Force weightlifting championship. He is a record holder for reverse-curling his own body weight. His record as an amateur boxer was 31–1. During the Korean War he was an interrogator and pilot flying secret missions. He had both CIA and NSA clearance. He competed as a downhill skier, in motocross and semi-pro football. He studied Kung Fu for eight years. He speaks five languages. He was on his his way to a Ph.D when he was offered a contract by a studio. There was a six year gap between his last two appearances, so he may have retired. He is the author of The Poetic Works of William Smith: The Words and Images of a Hollywood Legend. He is a renaissance man.

Another gorgeous day, perfect for doing business curbside. My thanks to the woman who bought a book on spirituality whose title escapes me, and to Alice, who purchased Interview with the Vampire by Ann Rice; and to the woman who selected two paperbacks in Russian; and to the one who took home four kids books.
