RIP prolific British actor Bernard Hill, 79. Born in Manchester, his screen career spans 1974 to the present, one work to be released posthumously. There are 131 titles under his name at IMDb, a figure that doesn’t include the multiple appearances he made on BBC programs, including two on the great I, Claudius. On the big screen he was in Gandhi (1982), The Bounty (1984), The Ghost and the Darkness (1996), Titanic (1997), True Crime (1999), The Scorpion King (2002), the second and third installments of The Lord of the Rings trilogy (2002–03), Valkyrie (2008). He did a lot of Shakespeare on TV and also Dickens’ Great Expectations. He was married to actress Marianna Hill until his passing. He was a father of one. Well done, Sir. Thank you. The first draft of my latest short story, Three Visits, is complete, five hand-written pages. I’ve already begun working on the second. I don’t expect it to grow much.

What’s a snowflake? Headline from nypost.com: “Too upset for exams: Columbia law students want school to cancel finals, pass all students because they’re ‘irrevocably shaken’ after protest breakup.” That’s a snowflake.

Headline from foxnews.com: “Former Biden DOJ official spearheading Trump prosecution was on DNC payroll.” No — it can’t be. They wouldn’t do something like that.

True to form, the smoke cleared and Schmuck Schumer made a public appearance.

It was a pleasant day to work curbside. My thanks to the woman who donated a bunch of DVDs in Russian, and to Wolf, who bought seven of them along with a hardcover in that language and a Platters CD collection; and to the two women who each selected a cookbook; and to Herbie, who chose Ballet Shoes by Noel Streatfeild; and to Steve, the poet laureate of Sheepshead Bay, who opted for a Santana CD collection and an audio edition of Karin Slaughter’s Criminal; and to the woman who took home a Bette Midler CD; and to the one who settled her tab.
