RIP music maven J.D. Souther, 78. Born in Detroit, he was raised in Amarillo. He played in many bands and sang with Linda Ronstadt and James Taylor, but his main gift was songwriting. His Wiki profile lists nine solo albums, none selling particularly well. He had two hit singles: You’re Only Lonely climbed to #7 and Her Town Too to #11 on the Billboard Top 100. He was involved in the writing of several hits by the Eagles: Best of My Love, New Kid in Town and Heartache Tonight each hit #1. Don Henley’s Heart of the Matter peaked at #22. Souther is a member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Many of his songs were used in films. He also did some acting. There 14 titles under his name at IMDb, including seven episodes of Nashville and five of Thirtysomething. His most notable movie appearance came in Postcards from the Edge (1990). Married twice, he was a father of one. Well done, Sir. Thank you. Photo from Google Images:

Say it ain’t so. Headline from nypost.com: “Tupperware files for bankruptcy as its colorful containers lose relevance.” Great run.

Mad Vlad. Excerpt from an NYP article by Yvonne Juris: “Roughly 80,000 Ukrainian troops have died and as many as 400,000 have been injured, according to a confidential estimate shared with the Wall Street Journal. Western intelligence has tallied Russian casualties at close to 200,000, the number of wounded approximately 400,000.” And for what?

There are family arguments, then there’s this. From NYP: “Dear Abby: I confronted my mom about her affair and she told me to go to therapy.”

Woo-hoo! From NYP: “NYC’s free condom program facing shortage — and it could be weeks before there’s any action on supply.” Par-tay interruptus.

Karma? From NYP: “ABC’s David Muir sees newscast ratings tank after his controversial debate moderating.” Are people beginning to realize these people are Dem operatives, not journalists?

The Fed has caved and raised the interest rate. Will it be beneficial? I have no idea.

Headline out of Arizona from foxnews.com: “State election database flags 100,000 voters as possible noncitizens: ‘Coding oversight’.” Again, this is why I don’t believe DT can win. Hope I’m wrong.

I hereby give Gavin Newsom equal time. Excerpt from an FN Op-Ed piece, post $20 minimum wage hike: “California has added 11,000 new jobs in the industry. As of July, our state boasts a historic 750,500 fast-food jobs.” I guess citizens don’t mind paying higher prices.

The Teamsters are not endorsing a candidate, which many view as a blow to Dems. Unfortunately and surprisingly, I did not find an answer when I asked Google how many times the union has endorsed a Republican presidential candidate.

If there were only a way to direct heavy rains to areas suffering drought.

The rain held off and the Anti-Inflation Book Shop was able to operate. My thanks to Angelo, who grossly overcompensated me for The New Great Depression: Winners and Losers in a Post-Pandemic World by James Rickards, and to the woman who bought a hardcover in Russian. Picayune in terms of volume, but at least there was no incoming today.
