What Now?

McCarthy’s speakership is kaput. What changes? That said, there’s a rumor that someone is going to nominate Trump for the position, which is legal. Wouldn’t that be fun? I doubt he would be elected, though, as there are RINOs who wouldn’t vote for him. Zero Dems voted to keep McCarthy. They are united in the drive toward Socialism. Republicans are divided.

The borough of Manhattan has its first public beach. It’s located in the Gansevoort Peninsula in Hudson River Park, west of the Meatpacking District, in the area of West 14th. It’s funded primarily by the city, which means I have to give grudging kudos to politicians, whose batting average is still well below the Mendoza Line. RIP original Met Joe Christopher, 87. Born in the Virgin Islands, he spent his first three seasons in Pittsburgh as a backup to all three OF positions. His 1959 debut occurred on the day Harvey Haddix threw twelve perfect innings only to lose in the 13th. He was a member of the 1960 World Champions, scoring as a pinch runner in games two and five. The Amazin’s selected him in the 1961 expansion draft. In ’64 he hit .300 and had 16 homers and 76 RBI. He was traded to the Red Sox after the ’65 season. ’66 would be his last year in the bigs. He played minor league ball through ’68, and winter ball from ‘54-’69. In eight seasons he hit .260 and had 29 dingers, 434 hits. He had one five-hit game and eight four-hit games. On May 31st of ’64 his three-run homer in the bottom of the 7th tied the second game of a double-header at Shea Stadium that drew more than 57,000. 14, I left the house, returned after dark and turned on the TV. To my surprise, the game was still going. The twin bill was the longest in MLB history, 9:52, the second game 23 innings. The Giants swept. Thank you, Sir. Your smile was inspirational.
