The contrasts on planet Earth are ever fascinating, especially among humans. While billions worldwide worry about the consequences of Russia’s invasion of the Ukraine, surfers and jet skiers took on huge storm-generated waves off the coast of Portugal.
Here’s why the predicted November political tsunami may not occur. GDP was 7% in the fourth quarter and is now expected to be above 5% in 2022. Voters may view that as the work of the Quid Pro Joe administration. It doesn’t matter if that’s true or not, the guy in charge gets the credit, as Bill Clinton did when the ‘90’s internet boom wiped away the sins of politicians. Will the booming economy offset inflation woes, the Afghanistan and Ukraine debacles, and social issues? I have no idea, but the right should not take gains for granted. Argue intelligently.
RIP Sally Kellerman, 84. A California girl, graduate of Hollywood High, her career spanned 1957 to the present, two of her works to be released posthumously. There are 157 titles under her name at IMDb. She will always be remembered as the original Hot Lips in MASH (1970), for which she received an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress. She was Rodney Dangerfield’s love interest in Back to School (1986). A master of the offbeat, she made guest appearances on many prime time shows, including The Twilight Zone, The Outer Limits, The Alfred Hitchcock Hour, Star Trek and Columbo. She even did a ten-episode arc on The Young and the Restless soap opera. She did theater and also cut a couple of albums and did a night club act. In a neat bit of trivia, Mark Farner, frontman/lead guitarist of Grand Funk Railroad, wrote the band’s upbeat pop single, Sally, for Kellerman, his girlfriend at the time. Here’s a quote attributed to her: “It hasn’t been smooth or delightful every minute, there were lean years and rough years, but it’s been exciting and good and I’m thrilled to be an actress and a singer and to have spent my life this way.” Well done. Madam. Thank you.
The first full session in three days for the floating book shop proved disappointing. My thanks to the gentleman who bought a hardcover in Russian, and to whoever downloaded Adjustments to Kindle.
