Here’s the work of RHED, a 21-year-old artist. Guess whose son he is. Answer below. How refreshing that he isn’t capitalizing on famous names.

Friday night’s movie fix courtesy of Netflix was a winner, Call of the Wild (2020), the latest adaptation of the Jack London classic. Having never read the novel, I have no idea how faithful the flick is to it, but it is entertaining. Of the cast, I recognized only Harrison Ford, who is touching in the role of a good man on the run from emotional pain. The dog, Terry — Buck in the film — is great. The CGI is fantastic, although more obvious than any I’d ever seen. Dog lovers would likely eat it up. The only folks who might not like it are those who want strict adaptation of literary works. It was directed by Chris Sanders, who has received three Oscar nominations for his work at the helm of animated features. The screenplay was adapted by Michael Green, whose source was a 13-episode series written by Egerton Ryerson Young. Green has an impressive resume on both the big and small screen that includes work as a producer, two examples being Blade Runner 2049 and Smallville. Here are the stars of the flick:

The recent joy concerning the 4.3% unemployment rate should have come with an asterisk. According to an article by Lisa Fickenscher at nypost.com: “In 2019, the participation rate was close to 63.5% — it’s now 61.8%.”

RHED’s parents are Guy Ritchie and Madonna.

In late June of 1971 I hitchhiked from Kalamazoo, Michigan, the site of my alma mater WMU, to California and back in a period of 22 days. I included a couple of the events that occurred during the sojourn in Present and Past. I kept a journal, which I recently reread, hoping for fodder. I was not going to include any of it in Curious Sicilian, as I was concerned it would simply be filler to get to my 200-page target. But my mind wouldn’t let it go. There are about five instances that fit the collection perfectly. I began rewriting them in longhand yesterday. How ridiculous that I’d deemed them unworthy. It’s amazing that one can still be so dense in an important matter at the age of 71. I just hope I haven’t used the stuff in any of my books. I have included some in the blog.
