There’s some neat word play in Michael Goodwin’s op-ed piece in today’s NY Post. He describes the exodus of the well to do from the Empire State as “Taxodus” and the entity itself as “The Vampire State.” In the same vein, this morning radio talk show host Mark Simone quipped that U-Haul had named Governor Cuomo as Man of the Year. Kudos.

I hate the Patriots, no doubt due to envy of their success, but this hounding of team owner Robert Kraft is disgraceful. An old widower solicited prostitution — big deal.

Here’s a shout out to a goombah. For 24 years Phil Martelli served as the head basketball coach at St. Joseph’s in Philly. His record was 444–329. He won five Atlantic Ten conference championships, two conference tournament championships, qualified for the NCAA tournament seven times, and the NIT six times, losing in the finals in 2005. He was named Coach of the Year in 2004, as St. Joe’s was the last major college to finish the regular season undefeated, 27–0. The Hawks lost in the elite eight that year. Martelli was fired yesterday, the team having struggled the past three seasons. It was a terrific run. Kudos, sir.
