Wows
Let’s start with a positive story from foxnews.com, edited by yours truly: In December 2018 T. Scott Marr was found lying unresponsive at his Nebraska home. He was rushed to a hospital, where doctors said he’d likely suffered a stroke. His condition quickly worsened, his brain swelling severely. He was placed on life support, not expected to survive. His four children faced the decision everyone dreads, and pulled the plug. A funeral was planned. Miraculously, rather than fading away, Marr began responding. Eventually, he was able to smile and move his hands and toes. He went through speech and physical therapy and has been released from the hospital. Here’s a pic:
Billy Jensen once was a reporter for several NYC outlets. He turned to investigating unsolved murders. He is the subject of a long article by Brad Hamilton in today’s NY Post. He is credited with solving ten cases. The piece includes these sobering stats: there are 200,000 unsolved murders on the books at any given time; on average, 38% are never solved.
For the past several days sports media has been inundated with articles about talented wide receiver Antonio Brown’s apparently bizarre, self-destructive behavior, which managed to get him cut from the Raiders, who don’t appear to be a playoff team. Yesterday he was signed by the Patriots, who are a lock for the playoffs and will probably again represent the AFC in the Super Bowl — as long as Tom Brady doesn’t suffer a major injury. Maybe this jerk is a genius. But he better not call Belichick a “cracker,” as he did one of Oakland’s execs.
Arguments are not won or lost by a clever retort, but sometimes someone says something that really hits home, as conservative talk-meister Mark Levin did with this: “The NRA Doesn’t Kill People. That’s Planned Parenthood!” Kudos.
From FN, edited by yt: Walter Mosley, who is black, quit Star Trek: Discovery after receiving a formal complaint about using the N-word in the writer’s room. He said: “I just told a story about a cop who explained to me, on the streets of Los Angeles, that he stopped all n — ers in paddy neighborhoods and all paddies in n — er neighborhoods, because they were usually up to no good.” Someone complained. Mosley has had scores of books published, including the Easy Rawlins mystery series. The first, Devil in a Blue Dress, was adapted to great effect to the big screen in 1995, starring Denzel Washington as Rawlins, Don Cheadle, chilling as his dangerous buddy Mouse, and Jennifer Beals as the femme fatale. Of the incident, Mosley added: “Sooner or later I’d be fired or worse — silenced.”
My thanks to the kind folks who bought books and DVDs on this ideal day. There was an awwww moment. A little guy of about ten spotted a beautiful pictorial on new moms and purchased it for his mother, who has just given birth. Kudos, young man.
