Headline from nypost.com: “Howdy, neighbor: This Alaska city has one unique feature — every resident lives in the same building.” Whittier, population 263 as of 2023, about 60 miles from Anchorage. Fishing and tourism are its main industries. Temperatures range from an average high of 63 in July, to an average low of 23 in January. I thought it would be a lot colder in winter. Photo from NYP:

I’ve been very chipper the past week or so. Usually, I’m happiest when writing stuff for publication. It’s a bit more than that this time. I’ve wanted to interview porn star Sara Jay for the longest time, use it as a closing piece for the By the Numbers collection, and then issue a print copy in addition to the ebook version, which is missing a story I recently completed. I started following SJ on X, making amusing comments regarding her posts, hoping she’d notice but certain they’d be lost in the avalanche of responses she must receive, given her 1.6 million followers. For instance, when she posted a pic of herself in form-fitting attire, I channeled AC/DC: “Back in black — hey-hey, hey-hey…” It received a lot of likes. She invited me to her backup site and we’ve been exchanging messages daily. So far I’ve been disappointed in the brevity of her responses, and she has not answered a couple of questions. Ever skeptical, I’m wondering if it’s one of her assistants. She also may simply be trying to lure a paid subscriber, and who could blame her? It’s how she makes a living. No porn star will ever get any money from me. There is all the porn in the world most folks would want for free on the web. Whatever — I’m pretty sure there will be a profile, as it’s taking shape in my head, although I’m still hoping for an in-depth interview. Each shift on the PC I’m eager to see if there’s anything new from her. This is my favorite photo of her, from the top of her official site page:

Not much action at the Anti-Inflation Book Shop on this beautiful day. My thanks to the gentleman who bought two video cameras that probably need tinkering, and all the costume jewelry on display; and to the guy who purchased a hardcover in Russian; and to the woman who donated two T-shirts and a pair of socks.
