Yort Knits

Headline from nypost.com: “Safe bet: ‘Contrarian’ hedge fund betting on economic slump scores 163% return.” It’s the Contrarian Macro Fund. Don’t be demoralized. Remember that’s it’s good that some are making money.

From NYP: “$3,300 self-driving stroller set to be next rich parent must-have.” Let’s see how it does on a crowded sidewalk.

Trump’s tax returns reveal no dark secrets. Seven years of intense investigations by the partisan sharks continues to prove he is the cleanest power broker in world history.

This doesn’t sound good. Headline from newsmax.com: “Amazon to Cut More Than 18,000 Jobs.”

This headline from NM may go a long way in explaining the opposition to McCarthy as Speaker of the House: “Biden, McConnell Join Forces in Kentucky to Tout Infrastructure Bills.” Many see McCarthy as a McConnell, swamp clone.

Last night Movies!, channel 5–2 on OTA in NYC, ran A Night to Remember (1942), starring Loretta Young and Brian Aherne as a couple moving into a Greenwich Village building where foul play is afoot. Although beautifully filmed in noir style, it is too light-hearted to be considered of that hallowed genre. Aherne plays a lower tier mystery writer. He proudly shows a copy of one of his novels to a detective played by Sidney Toler, who played Charlie Chan in 22 movies. He points out his pseudonym, Yort, his real name spelled backwards, and asks the cop his opinion of the book, which the latter said he’d read. Toler’s character cleverly quips: “Knits.” Love it! Screenplay by Richard Flournoy and Jack Henley. Here are Toler, Aherne and Donald MacBride in character:

Why didn’t I think of this? Headline from nypost.com: “Author allegedly faked suicide to promote romance novel: ‘Beyond psychotic’.” It didn’t boost sales. I won’t mention her name. She doesn’t deserve the publicity.

In an op-ed piece at foxnews.com, Christopher F. Rufo cites a new movement: The Quiet Right. One example he uses is obvious, the flight of many from liberal bastions such as California and New York. A more interesting one is that “traditional, faith-based colleges, such as Hillsdale, Benedictine, Thomas Aquinas, and University of Dallas, have seen record-breaking enrollment.” A breath of fresh air, but I doubt it will ever become broad enough to change the course of America.

Gloomy, raw, but still mild for January. My thanks to the woman who bought The Wellness RX: Dr. Taub’s 7 Day Program for Radiant Health & Energy by Edward A. Taub, and a nutrition manual; and to the woman who did a swap.
