Ze’ev, Schmuel & More
This enterprising Shanghai woman is selling balloons along a popular waterfront strip that has turned off its lights to conserve energy during a heat wave. Photo from Reuters:
Business as usual south of the border, headline from nypost.com: “Journalist shot dead in Mexico is the 15th murdered this year.”
I’m disappointed at the sparse coverage of the JLO-Affleck wedding. I wanted so much more.
NYP headline: “Elon Musk’s 9-minute jet flight from San Jose to San Francisco sparks outrage.” 35 miles. I wonder if he claims his electric cars are a carbon offset.
Excerpt from NYP editorial on the NY House race between Jerry Nadler, 75, and Carolyn Maloney, 76: “…two longtime allies with little to no ideological distinction are turning on each other with ferocity and venom . . . out of a desire to stay in Congress for a few more years . . . extremely likely to be spent in the minority! They’ve shown they’re simply terrible human beings.” No argument from me. Career politicians almost always are.
I doubt there will be a more amusing headline today than this one from newsmax.com: “Peter Navarro to Newsmax: Take Fauci’s Passport as Flight Risk.” The contention is Anthony’s grant money to China led to the lab creation of Covid, and that he lied about it, which led to the death of millions.
My thanks to Sam, who donated a bunch of CDs, two of which Wolf jumped on: a Michael Buble` collection and the soundtrack to a Broadway production of South Pacific. He also took home a bunch of Russian DVDs. I had a nice laugh when I introduced the two and Sam commented on what an interesting name Wolf is. The latter said it’s translated from the Hebrew for Ze’ev, to which Sam dubbed himself “Shmuel” and the two bumped fists. It’s the type of occurrence that makes the floating book shop worth it even on a day of below average return. My thanks also to the gentleman who bought four books in Russian, and to Lou, who purchased the DVD of Taxman (1999), a thriller starring Joe Pantoliano. Lou was very happy, as he received an unexpected $5000 check from the city to cover his rent, which was in arrears. He’s 83.
